Bring Home the Bacon – Cue the brainwashing

“I can bring home the bacon.
Fry it up in a pan.
And never let you forget you’re a man.” ~Enjoli Commercial 1979

Thank you Enjoli for helping to brainwash us as little girls into thinking we could do it all.

Our formative years were in the 1970s and 80s. Born on the tail end of the women’s liberation movement, we bought into the lyrics and the sentiment. We felt like we could have a career, a family, and hobbies while maintaining the perfect physique with our low-fat diets and aerobics classes.

Something’s Not Right

We went out and got careers and started families. Our reality turned out different from the commercial. We were lied to, we were told we could do it all, yet, somehow we just couldn’t accomplish all that was promised.

Our homes were a mess, we were stressed and tired. We felt like we could never measure up to that Enjoli image. We felt like failures. Unrealistic expectations combined with the recommended high carbohydrate/low-fat diet left us a disaster.

Lessons Learned

Fast forward a few years, we are older, wiser, and carnivores. Lessons learned, we still like to think we can do it all but have enough experience to know that it is ok to say, ‘no’ sometimes, to have a little patience with ourselves, and we sure feel better without all the “healthy whole grains”.

We are a couple of years into this carnivore journey. This way of eating has been a boon for our health and fitness. We also realize that it isn’t the panacea that we hoped for, we still got hot flashes.

Even with a few hiccups along the way, we feel better than we have in decades.

The Truth in Aging Gracefully

Here are a few truths that we have learned in our 50+ years that have helped us age gracefully.

  • We stick to meat, water, and sometimes coffee because it makes us feel the best.
  • Dairy may taste grand, but we are pretty sure it isn’t doing us any favors.
  • We have realistic expectations. Our hormones went wonky. We still have/had hot flashes and crepey skin.
  • Sugar substitutes don’t work for us. We tried them with poor results. Rebel Ice Cream is the devil. Just sayin’.
  • We accept ourselves as we are, we can’t go back in time and fix our mother’s nutrition, our inherited genes, or many less than optimal decisions we made in the past. Carpe Diem.
  • We have fallen off the wagon and we got back on. Feeling good trumps FOMO (fear of missing out) any day.
  • Occasionally, we need motivation, we read inspiring success stories on MeatRx or Zero Carb Zen

Pooping on the carnivore diet. Oh yes. It is a marvel, the blessed doo doo. Allow me to explain. When our body transitions from one diet to another, the result in the pooping realm, is either constipation or diarrhea. I recently read Joe Rogan‘s account of his carnivore adventure. He described diarrhea in a fashion that I shall forever use from this day forward. Diarrhea, Joe Rogan explained, was a trust issue with his asshole. He said “I trust my butt hole about as much as I trust a shifty neighbor with a heavy Russian accent that asks a lot of personal questions”.

Pooping the Perfect Poo

Let’s hope you trust your butt hole a little more than Joe. Maybe you are confused about what your poo should look like on a carnivore diet. My cat, and fellow carnivore, may offer some insight into what you should see before the ceremonial flush.

You see, my cat eats raw food only. She poops every other day and nice little dainty turds. This is because her body uses all the nutrients from her diet. For humans, the same holds true for those on the carnivore diet. Except for the little dainty turd part.

Because meat is so nutrient-dense, our body absorbs much of the protein, vitamins, and minerals, leaving little to waste. Hence, less pooping. And, long, soft and fully formed is what you want to see in that porcelain commode.

If you want to check out what plops into the toilet, the Bristol Stool Chart is a great reference for examining the size and shape of your poo. A good poo is either Type 3 or Type 4 on the chart. If you are not in those ranges, you may have some gut issues.

What Your Poo is Telling You

Pooping on the carnivore diet may have you looking into the toilet more than ever before. It’s okay to be curious – the shape, stench and colour of that excellent crepe can be an indication that you’re ailing from more than you think.

You can gauge not only your gut health, but your overall health as well. Changes in your poop can be a more serious indication of something else going on.

Additionally, there should be consistency to your routine (every other day is fine) and absolutely no pain. As a matter of fact, there should be a great satisfaction to that dump and no need for reading material.

Diarrhea

Are you like Joe? Are you finding that you can’t trust your farts? Don’t fret my friends, if you are full carnivore and find that you can’t trust your farts, it might be time to cut back a little on the salt and possibly the fat. If that doesn’t work, digestive enzymes and HCL might be of some help too. For my fellow foxy lady and co-host of the website, it took her a whole 45 days for her body to adjust.

Constipation

Short bouts of constipation are normal. And treatable. A great remedy (don’t reach for those laxatives) is to consume more salt (we recommend Redmond Real Salt). Wait, what? I thought salt absorbed water and made you bloated. Total misconception. Kinda. Yes, salt does make you retain water however this will assist in getting the hydration in your colon for elimination purposes. Also, adding a Vitamin C supplement could help this backup.

Coffee and Pooping

Notice anything differently if you try to eliminate caffeine? That’s because caffeine works as a laxative. Not from the caffeine itself but from the result of the caffeine in our colon. The caffeine increases colon contractions. Thus, coffee = nice pooping. But I digress…

Perfect Poo on the Carnivore Diet

We hope this information has helped you figure out what to poop on the carnivore diet and what to do if it isn’t going quite as planned.

Information Overload

We are definitely living in a world of confusion. The internet has allowed information to flow into our minds as quickly as it takes to type in how does…… Like Marshall McLuhan said “the medium is the message”. What am I getting at and what does this all mean? Read on friends.

Insight

Good old Marshall McLuhan and his insight. I have never forgotten that book, Understanding Media and the Extensions of Man. In a nutshell, don’t dismiss how powerful the device as to which we are receiving our information is.

Manipulation is key and so is the dependence on our ignorance. When you read something, stop to figure out how it made you feel. Angry? Sad? Peaceful? Did it resonate with you? Take a moment to stop and wonder why. And thus, your journey into sifting through conflicting and hypocritical information will begin. Don’t be lost in a world of confusion!

Who do you trust?

You. That’s who. Only you can decide whether you can trust the information or the people as to whom the information is being delivered. Do your research and if something doesn’t make sense to you, compare information and make sure you understand the essence of that one particular word – it can make all the difference.

For example, the word “studies”. Did you know that this word is used by the medical community and their media deliverer (whatever that might be) so effectively that the mass population just assumes that “it must be true”.

Long Form Discussion

Youtube and podcasts have brought us a wonderful platform in which people can discuss freely (for the most part) their knowledge and have an excellent debate about controversial issues. Free speech without a political agenda (agenda setting in the media) provides a truly insightful discussion that isn’t marred by any outside influences.

These are known as long-form discussions. This helps you to think as well and make the proper decisions for yourself. Think, don’t lose the ability to THINK for yourself. Your values determine your interest and we lose sight of this by the manipulation of the medium and the message.

So What Am I Getting At?

When I started my ketogenic journey, I was confused by the conflicting information and I didn’t know who to trust. It’s maddening when I hear/see the information that is just wrong AND the methodology of the media and it’s minions to deliver the wrong message to support their ideology and political agenda.

But it’s ok. If we stop to think and do our research correctly, you will find your way and the truth. This is all a journey. And it isn’t easy. And there are a lot of institutions banking on your dependence on familiarity and obliviousness.

What’s Next?

Our next post will delve into regenerative agriculture and engineered animal proteins. We will describe the difference between regeneratively raised livestock and those raised in a concrete factory eating corn, soy………….

Tell us what you think.

Are you confused about diet, nutrition, and the carnivore diet?
